STEM CELL- REGENERATIVE MEDICINE

WHAT IS REGENERATIVE MEDICINE?

Regenerative medicine is a rapidly growing field of biomedical research, technology and patient care. It aims to develop new treatments that will help our body repair or restore organs and tissues damaged by injury, aging, cancer and disease. Our body has stem cells that can regenerate damaged tissues, and we can use this field of medicine to treat a wide range of diseases. Regenerative medicine treatments have the potential to encourage the damaged tissue to be repaired with these treatments through cellular therapy or by using the body’s own stem cells.
Regenerative medicine aims to develop new treatments that take advantage of the body’s ability to repair damaged tissue. It tries to improve the quality of life with modern treatments for people with disease, body wear, injury, or bad genes. It does this by combining science and technology, bringing researchers and doctors together, to help our bodies save themselves.

WHAT IS STEM CELL?

Stem cells have the ability to build every tissue in the human body, so they have great potential in tissue regeneration and repair. Cells need to show two basic properties in order to be included in the definition of “stem cells“. First, stem cells must have an unlimited but regular self-renewal ability to produce exactly the same generations as the source cell. As a general definition, “stem cells“ encompasses many different cell types. As “embryonic“ and “adult“ stem cells, we can divide them into 2 classes. Embryonic stem cells are found in the fetus, placenta, umbilical cord blood and infants. Adult stem cells are found in bone marrow and body fat. Multipolar stem cells collected from the bone marrow have been used in the treatment of leukemia, myeloma and lymphoma since the 1960s. Today, we started to treat many diseases with mesenchymal stem cells derived from fat. Especially in the fields of plastic surgery, dermatology, orthopedics, gynecology and urology, we get very good feedbacks in the treatment of some diseases.
